Why We Love Amazon

Amazon.com is quite zealous about customer follow-up:

    Dear Amazon.com Customer,
We've noticed that many of our customers who have purchased albums by Alison Krauss also enjoy the music of Various Artists. For this reason, you might like to know that Various Artists's new album O Sister 2: The Women's Bluegrass Collection is now available. You can order your copy at a savings of $4.49 by following the link below.

Heh heh.

Actually I find most of Amazon's "interactive experience" to be quite nice. I look forward to the day when library catalogs have similar recommendation engines, etc.

But Barnes & Noble consistently beats Amazon in price if you factor in shipping, especially if you have one of their frequent flyer cards; B&N's user interface, however, sucks. So I wind up doing my shopping at Amazon, then searching by ISBN at Barnes & Noble and making my final purchase there. If I'm feeling sufficiently time-rich and cash-poor I'll expand my search further to include Powell's and Alibris.

I wonder how many people do the same?
