Bowie double DVD to accompany new hits collection:

David Bowie's often groundbreaking videos have been collected for a new DVD, Best Of Bowie, due out November 19. The 47-song, two-disc set is designed to complement the two separate Best Of Bowie CD releases--one single-disc set and one double-disc set--coming out October 22.

Besides familiar clips such as "Heroes," "Ashes To Ashes," "Let's Dance," "China Girl," "Modern Love," and "Blue Jean," the DVD includes a number of rare and vintage Bowie TV performances, such as "Starman" from Top Of The Pops, "Young Americans" from The Dick Cavett Show, and three songs--"Oh! You Pretty Things," "Five Years," and "Queen Bitch"--taken from the British TV show, The Old Grey Whistle Test.

The set also includes Bowie's rendition of Martha & the Vandellas' Motown staple "Dancing In The Street" performed with Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger for the 1985 Live Aid concerts. Bowie is currently in the midst of a five-night New York City stand that next plays Wednesday (October 16) at Colden Center in Queens.

The full tracklisting for the Best Of Bowie DVD includes:

Disc One: "Oh! You Pretty Things," "Queen Bitch," and "Five Years" (The Old Grey Whistle Test), "Starman" (Top Of The Pops), "John, I'm Only Dancing," "The Jean Genie," "Space Oddity," "Drive-In Saturday" (Russell Harty Plus Pop), "Ziggy Stardust" (from the concert film, Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars), "Life On Mars?", "Rebel Rebel" (Top Pop), "Young Americans" (The Dick Cavett Show), "Be My Wife," "Heroes," "Boys Keep Swinging," "DJ," "Look Back In Anger," "Ashes To Ashes," "Fashion," "Wild Is The Wind," "Let's Dance," "China Girl," "Modern Love," "Cat People" (live), "Blue Jean," "Loving The Alien," and "Dancing In The Street" (with Mick Jagger)

Disc Two: "Absolute Beginners," "Underground," "As The World Falls Down," "Day-In Day-Out," "Time Will Crawl," "Never Let Me Down," "Fame '90," "Jump They Say", "Black Tie White Noise," "Miracle Goodnight," "Buddha Of Suburbia," "The Heart's Filthy Lesson," "Strangers When We Meet," "Hello Spaceboy," "Little Wonder," "Dead Man Walking," "Seven Years In Tibet," "I'm Afraid Of Americans," "Thursday's Child," and "Survive."

My gosh... I had no idea that Texas Hold 'Em and David Bowie had so much in common...

I grew up watching Bowie in such 80s videos as "Modern Love" (and what a great/catchy song... 'gets me to the church on time...').

I was therefore astounded to later learn of the entire history I had missed (what with not being born or being a wee toddler and all) with Ziggy Stardust and androgyny central and so forth. Nonetheless, the guy's had an amazing career.

One not so great moment, in my opinion: the duet between Bowie and Jagger on "Dancing in the Streets." Lame idea for these two... much lamer video, which must be why they chose a live shot for this collection.

If the weight is given in decimal parts of a carat, the figure should be accurate to the last decimal place.
