If TV was any more self-referential, it would disappear up its own sphincter:

ARSENIO Hall is returning to host a rival version of "American Idol" for CBS.

Hall, who hosted "The Arsenio Hall Show" for six years and co-starred on "Martial Law," will host CBS' "Star Search," an updated take on the Ed McMahon talent show.

CBS has high hopes for "Star Search" which will air twice a week, on Wednesday and Thursday, at 8 p.m. beginning Jan. 8.

Winners will be determined by viewers and celebrity judges, with the finale airing Feb. 6.

CBS had reportedly been searching for months to find the right host before settling on Hall. [NY Post]

Why didn't they just dig up Major Bowes' moldering corpse and prop it up on the stage? The last time I liked Arsenio was in Coming to America.
