Norah Jones Just Won't Go Away

Though her brilliant, timeless-sounding Come Away With Me was released ELEVEN MONTHS AGO, it hit number one last week. This is quite remarkable on several levels: the long slow climb to the top of the charts, the commercial clout of a jazz vocal album, Jones' youth in a genre that worships its veterans, and the fact that the album is so far away from any trend that it is a trend all its own.

Another significant aspect of the story is that I get to gloat, having first formulated this judgment of Jones back in March. When I'm right, I'm right (which isn't to say I'm never wrong, but we're not talking about that right now, are we?). Jones is also tied for first place with five Grammy nominations.
