Vacation Reading
Published May 26, 2003
So, tomorrow my family and I are leaving for a month long vacation. And I won't have internet access during this time. So I'm taking a buttload of books with me to keep me occupied during that time (I have not read much the past year or two and really want to).
So, I pulled these books off of my massive bookshelf in my room and will take them with me. I don't need to read all of them, but whatever I get read will be an improvement!
So, in no order, here's what I'm taking.
Darkness at Noon by Arthur Koestler- I read this two years ago for my Advanced Reading class in highschool. One of my favorite books of that class.
Crooked House by Agatha Christie- I love Christie's mystery books. I've read too many to count. and I'm taking several more in addition to this one with me.
The Plague by Albert Camus- I read one of his other books and enjoyed it, so now I'm tackling this one which is considered to be one of his best.
The White Plague by Frank Herbert- Herbert is a sci-fi author who wrote the Dune series, one of the best sci-fi series ever writen.
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas- I've heard it's good, but haven't read anything by Dumas yet so I don't know what to expect.
The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky- I read Crime and Punishment for the above mentioned Advanced Reading class. C&P is one of the top 5 books I have ever read.
Literary Reflections by James A. Michener- My freshman or sophmore year I read his book, Chesapeake. Amazing book. Also one of the top 5 books I've ever read. Really really long, so it counted as two books. (yay!). This one isn't long (though most of his are) but looks really interesting.
Just Shy of Harmony by Phillip Gulley- Writen by a Quaker minister, this is my dose of "Christian fiction" for the summer. I read his previous book, Home to Harmony which was really suprisingly good.
1984 by George Orwell- A prediction for the "future".
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle- We all know Sherlock Holmes.
The Book Of The Dun Cow by Walter Wangerin, Jr- A fantasy, I believe.
Light in August by William Faulkner- I read one of his other books, As I Lay Dying (I think it was called) and it was very confusing as each chapter was writen from a different person's view point and was in the stream of consiousness style.
