Metallica Rethinks The Internet

I'm tempted to dismiss Metallica's latest album, St. Anger without hearing it. Though I've spent far too much money on albums to spend much time download music, I remember what Lars said, and I remember that it was insulting. They've generated far too much ill will to easily win back fans. Right?

Maybe not. While some people will say that Metallica's beef has always been about control and so they haven't really changed at all, our very own Eric Olsen makes the case for a change of heart in MSNBC's Living section today. At the very least, it seems they've provided enough value for your money that you should base your buying decision on the music, not on stale politics.

Feel free to read the piece there and comment here, and don't forget to rate the article honestly at the bottom of the page and link to it from your own blog if you find it interesting. Spread the word! And kudos to Eric for another great article.

I know one fan they've won back....

The CD (I haven't finished listening to it....) isn't a 100% return to style, but it's strong (so far) but the VALUE.... it's amazing. A CD, DVD & THREE live shows (I've heard there are plans for more stuff in the "vaults" later.)

I'll be writing my own piece on it (you beat me to it..), but I wanted to to throw my hat in the ring.

just picked it up this afternoon.

it's certainly a return to an 'older' style of their music. lots of start & stop riffing.

weird bits: the sound is defintely not up to stuff like the "Black Album"...the bass is kinda weak and the drums, well, don't know what happened there.

oh ya, and NO guitar solos. hmmm....

Or maybe Eric's full of crap. I mean, much respect and all, but would a band with a true change of hard be trying to pollute P2P networks with John Denver?

It's all about control, baby. :)

Yes, we must never discount the possibility that I am full of crap.

Tried to ping this URL from my blog today. Guess it didn't work. Can I not just ping the address itself? (Just noticed the special ping address here.)

Also pinged Nurse Ratched from this post at Blogcritics and it didn't seem to register there either. Maybe for the same reason.

All that pinging, and not getting pung.
